Your Treatment Journey

Step 1

A full dental examination will be done, including x-rays to assess the overall health of your mouth.

Step 2

Once you pass the dental examination your dentist will provide an image of what the finished result will look like once your composite is applied where you’d like it.

Step 3

The composite material will then be applied to the tooth and light-cured, permanently bonding it to the tooth.

More about NHS Dental Dentures

If you have chips, cracks or discolouration, composite bonding at Astley Dental Centre can be used to repair these imperfections in a single appointment.

Your dentist can use artistic flair and meticulous attention to detail, sculpting the composite resin to correct gaps between teeth and provide you with a flawless, symmetrical smile.

At your consultation, your dentist will explain how the colour of this tooth-coloured resin can be tailored to you; you can opt for a natural colour if you’re already happy with the shade of your teeth, or you can undergo a whitening treatment first before selecting a brighter, whiter composite to match for maximum impact.

Together, you and your dentist will discuss what you were hoping to change about your smile using the composite resin. Using sophisticated photography or digital scanning, you’ll be able to see a digital view of what the final result will look like. Together you can make adjustments to this view until the desired final result is achieved.

Alternatively, your practitioner can use a mock-up technique. This is when they apply resin to your teeth without the adhesive to show you what the final result would look like before you go ahead with the treatment. It allows you to be certain in your decisions.

After your consultation, your composite bonding can begin. The dentist will clean and polish the teeth to be touched up by the resin and apply the composite with adhesive to any areas you’ve discussed. This makes edges straighter, closes gaps and seals away surface damage such as small chips or discolouration.

Once the tooth-coloured resin has been applied, your dentist will then cure it using a curing light, sealing the composite in place for a seamless finish.

If a patient gets home and they’ve changed their mind – not to worry! The process is completely reversible and the composite can be simply and safely filed away by your dentist.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does composite bonding take?

Composite bonding can be completed in a single appointment, taking around 2 hours depending on the number of teeth and the amount of bonding to be applied to teeth.

Will drilling be required?

This will be to make sure your teeth don’t end up too large for your mouth.

What aftercare is required for composite bonding?

Apart from your usual hygiene routine and regular dentist visits, composite bonding can be affected by things such as spicy foods, red wine, coffee and smoking, just like your natural teeth.

What happens if I change my mind?

It’s no problem at all, if you change your mind, the process is completely reversible. The composite material can be carefully filed down by your dentist. Note: please don’t try to remove it yourself.

Great experience!! They have new(ish) receptionist who is very helpful and welcoming and the dentist is excellent. Dentist did everything he could to save my tooth, and managed to fill it. He is very patient and professional and explains everything simply even drawing on a white board to help. I would definitely recommend.

I recently used this dental practice, and I must say, the quality of service was superb. I don't normally post reviews, but in this instance you've got to give credit where credit is due. The dentist was very considerate (I get quite nervous with dental work) and talked me through everything. The quality of the work was top notch as well. Excellent service around and l wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
