My name is Dr George Karageorgiou, Principal Dentist and Associate Implant Dentist at Astley Dental Centre.

I graduated with a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Grigore T. Popa” and have since dedicated my clinical focus to implant dentistry. I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Implantology and went on to achieve a Master of Science (MSc) in Dental Implantology at the University of Salford.

Alongside my role at Astley Dental Centre, I work within a structured implant referral and academic environment at ICE Postgraduate Dental Institute and Hospital, where I manage referred implant cases and contribute to advanced treatment planning. This allows me to remain closely involved with complex surgical cases and current evidence-based techniques.

I am committed to continuous professional development and regularly attend advanced courses in implant surgery, bone regeneration and full-mouth rehabilitation. My approach combines meticulous surgical precision with detailed restorative planning to ensure long-term, predictable outcomes.

Implant Aftercare Advice

It’s common to experience some swelling or bruising around the implant site, which typically subsides within 2-3 days. To help reduce swelling, apply ice packs to the cheek for 10 minutes at a time. Sleeping in an upright position during the first few nights can also prevent unnecessary pressure on the implant.

Our Aftercare Guidance:

• Stick to cold drinks and avoid eating until the anaesthetic has fully worn off.

• Refrain from strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for the first 48 hours.

• To minimize infection risk, follow our prescribed antibiotic regimen carefully. This is essential for maintaining gum health and ensuring implant success.

• Avoid brushing the surgical area for the first few days. Once tenderness allows, gently clean the site with a soft toothbrush.

• Use warm saltwater mouthwashes during the first week to aid healing, but ensure the water isn’t too hot to avoid scalding.

• Avoid smoking until the wound has healed completely, as smoking delays healing and increases the risk of infection.
